Brewers, Red Sox close out set at Fenway Park

Young fireballer Yovani Gallardo hopes to slay the mighty Boston lineup today, and he certainly has the goods to do just that. Gallardo is 8-3 to date with a 3.76 ERA and has racked up 84 strikeouts in 93 1/3 innings. The righty didn't figure into the decision against the Cubs on Tuesday despite permitting only one earned run on three hits.
Gallardo has never faced Boston in his career, and it will be interesting to see if the prospect of pitching in Fenway Park proves intimidating.
Seemingly-ageless knuckleballer Tim Wakefield will take the hill for Boston with hopes of improving his 3-2 record and 4.39 ERA. Despite allowing just a single earned run on four hits in seven innings on Tuesday, Wakefield was dealt a loss by Tampa Bay. In that game, the righty threw 119 pitches, his most in any game since 2003. He needs just four more victories to reach 200 for his career.
In 11 career appearances against Milwaukee, Wakefield is 5-2 with a 3.33 ERA.
Yesterday, Milwaukee earned its first win in Boston since September of 1997, as George Kottaras hit the go-ahead homer in a 4-2 triumph.
Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart began the game with back-to-back homers for the Brewers, who won for the second time in six contests.
Randy Wolf (5-4) gave up two runs on nine hits with a walk while fanning three. John Axford worked a perfect ninth to earn his 19th save.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Mike Cameron picked up second-inning RBI for the Red Sox, who lost for just the second time in their last 14 games.
Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez finished hitless in four at-bats and remains one hit shy of 1,000 for his career.
Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon served the last of his two-game suspension on Saturday.
Boston remains in first place in the AL East despite the loss, while Milwaukee continues to lead the NL Central as well.
Jon Lester (9-3) failed in his bid to become baseball's first 10-game winner. He allowed seven hits and four runs -- three earned -- with eight strikeouts and three walks over eight full frames.
