O's snap Nats' eight-game win streak

Jun 20, 2011 - 1:03 AM Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Mark Reynolds went 3-for-4 with a home run to help Baltimore power past Washington, 7-4, and snap the Nationals' eight- game winning streak.

J.J. Hardy had a homer and a double and Derrek Lee drove in a run for the Orioles, who won for just the second time in eight games and avoided a three- game sweep.

Chris Jakubauskas (2-0) picked up the win for Baltimore after he gave up three runs on six hits while fanning six over five innings. The starter also recorded two hits at the plate, the first of his career.

"I was seeing the ball pretty good [considering] I haven't seen a ball in forever," said Jakubauskas. "But as much as I love hitting, I knew my job was to go out today and try to shut that lineup down."

Roger Bernadina went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and Danny Espinosa finished with a solo shot and two RBI for Washington, which was looking to win a ninth consecutive game for the first time since June 2005.

"We put things together there for a couple weeks and just continued to play well," said Nats manager Jim Riggleman. "We certainly would have liked to have gotten out of there with another win and have the off day tomorrow, but we'll just have to crank it back up."

Tom Gorzelanny (2-5) returned from the disabled list and was charged with the loss for Washington. The left-hander, who had been out with elbow inflammation, made his first start since May 23 and surrendered five runs -- four earned -- on 10 hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Baltimore scored two in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. Jakubauskas singled before trying to score on Hardy's double off the right field fence, but was tagged out at the plate.

However, Adam Jones' two-out base hit to center plated Hardy, and Lee followed by ripping a ball down the left-field line. Jones was able to score on the play after the ball took an odd bounce into corner.

Washington chipped away at its deficit in the bottom of fifth, when Bernadina slugged a fastball into the right field stands.

But Baltimore proved to be too much for the Nationals.

Reynolds began the sixth with a solo blast on a hanging slider that just cleared the fence in left.

In the eighth, Nolan Reimold singled past a diving Espinosa, then stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Wilson Ramos. Reimold scored on a Craig Tatum sacrifice fly to gave the Orioles a 7-3 lead.

Espinosa led off the ninth with a homer, but Koji Uehara closed the game from there.

Baltimore scored first after loading the bases with nobody out in the second inning, but was able to muster only one run. Lee scored after Tatum grounded into a double play, and Gorzelanny retired Robert Andino to strand a runner on third.

Hardy added another run for the Orioles with a solo blast to center in the third.

In the fourth, Baltimore struck again to take a 3-0 lead. Reynolds roped a double down the left field line, then scored when Tatum singled up the middle.

Washington cut the deficit to one with two runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth. Laynce Nix reached on a fielder's choice, then scored on Michael Morse's double down the left field line. Espinosa followed with another double to plate Morse.
