Beachy fans 11 as Braves sweep Blue Jays

Jun 22, 2011 - 8:43 PM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Brandon Beachy registered a career-high 11 strikeouts while Dan Uggla and Brian McCann both hit two-run homers, as the Atlanta Braves completed a three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays with a 5-1 victory.

Beachy (2-1), who was activated from the disabled list prior to the game, allowed just one run on four hits and two walks over six innings.

Brooks Conrad added a pinch-hit home run for the Braves, who have won four straight.

Jo Jo Reyes (3-6), facing his former team for the first time, allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two over 5 1/3 innings.

Jose Bautista blasted his 22nd home run of the season for the Blue Jays, who have dropped four in a row and nine of their last 13.

Freddie Freeman singled to lead off the second and Uggla followed with a blast to left-center, giving the Braves an early 2-0 lead. The home run marked Uggla's first off left-handed pitching this season

"I've thrown numbers out the window," said Uggla. "I'm just gonna go out and hit the ball hard and try and help my team any way I can."

Bautista roped a near-identical blast in the third, as he turned on a Beachy fastball and sent it into the bleachers in left-center.

After Jayson Heyward drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the third, McCann continued the long ball onslaught with his second two-run blast in as many games, giving the Braves a 4-1 lead.

"It was a 2-1 slider to McCann," said Reyes. "I wasn't trying to bury it and go 3-1. It set up for him to hit the ball."

Brooks Conrad got into the mix in the seventh, lifting a ball to right, which narrowly avoided the glove of Bautista and landed atop the fence for a home run. Initially, the play was not called a homer and the confused Conrad was thrown out at third. Following a :42 review, however, Conrad was given credit for the blast, extending the Braves' lead to four.

The following batter, Jordan Schafer, also lifted a Jon Rauch offering deep to right. Given another chance, Bautista did not disappoint, as he leapt and reached over the top of the wall to snare the ball to rob Schafer of a home run in spectacular fashion.

The Blue Jays threatened in the eight, loading the bases with two down, but Jonny Venters struck out J.P. Arencibia on four pitches to end the inning.

In all, Toronto was 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
