Brewers clash with Twins again in Milwaukee

Jun 25, 2011 - 2:53 PM (Sports Network) - Yovani Gallardo has fallen on hard times of late. Tonight, the right-hander aims to snap a three-start winless stretch when the Brewers host the Minnesota Twins in the middle test of a weekend series.

Gallardo last started Sunday at Boston in a 12-3 loss. In that game, Gallardo was pulled after three-plus innings in which he surrendered nine hits and eight runs -- five earned. His recent stretch comes on the heels of a six- start winning streak.

On the positive side, Gallardo is 5-1 with a 3.78 ERA in eight home starts. He's 1-0 with a 2.40 ERA in two career starts against the Twins.

Tonight's Twins starter, Francisco Liriano, has given up more than three earned runs just once in his last seven outings. Minnesota has scored 11 runs over his last two starts, during which time Liriano has fanned 17 batters and walked just two in posting a 1-0 record. He's coming off a seven-inning no- decision against San Diego. Aside from the 11 runs, the Twins scored two runs or less in six straight games he appeared in leading up to a June 12 game versus Texas.

Liriano is 3-1 with a 2.74 ERA in four lifetime starts against the Brewers.

Prince Fielder continues to torment opposing pitchers. Last night, his go-ahead, two-run double in the seventh helped the Brewers take a 4-3 win.

Ryan Braun hit a ground-rule, RBI double in the fifth to extend his hitting streak to a career-high 15 games while Corey Hart also had an RBI double for the Brewers, who came into the game having lost five of seven.

"It was a good win to get here tonight," said Fielder. "It's exciting to win a game like that, especially when I can help contribute to it."

Randy Wolf (6-4) went seven innings to get the win as he was charged with three runs on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts. He has not lost a game over his past seven starts and is 3-0 during that time.

Danny Valencia hit a three-run home run as the Twins dropped their third straight game following eight consecutive victories. Scott Baker (5-5) had a three-start winning streak snapped as he was tagged for all four runs on eight hits with four walks and four strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.

The victory helped the Brewers keep an amazing streak intact. They are the only team in the majors that has yet to lose consecutive games at home this season.

Milwaukee won four of its six meetings with the Twins last season.
