Giants go after rare sweep in Detroit

The Giants haven't swept a series of the road of at least three games since taking four in a row from Arizona, July 22-25 last season. They did take a two-game set at Dodger Stadium this year.
The chance for the sweep in Detroit came after a 15-3 rout last night in a game that was delayed 2 1/2 hours by rain. Brandon Crawford, Pablo Sandoval and Miguel Tejada each homered. Crawford went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored for San Francisco. Sandoval extended his hitting streak to a career-best 13 games.
Tejada hit a grand slam and scored twice for the Giants, who also got two RBI from Aubrey Huff.
Barry Zito (2-1) tossed six scoreless innings around a lengthy rain delay. He gave up five hits in the victory. Guillermo Mota allowed three runs on four hits over three innings of relief to pick up his first save of the season.
The Giants have gone 20-0 in games this year that they've held a lead of at least three runs.
Brennan Boesch and Jhonny Peralta each hit solo homers for the Tigers, who have lost four of five.
Max Scherzer (9-4) gave up nine runs -- six earned -- on six hits over two- plus innings.
Ryan Vogelsong will be on the mound this afternoon for the Giants as he tries to win a fourth straight decision. Vogelsong is coming off a win over the Cubs on Tuesday. He's 3-0 this season on the road and is scheduled to make his first career start against Detroit. The Tigers are one of three teams that he's never faced in his career (also White Sox and Blue Jays).
Rick Porcello is headed in the opposite direction with an 0-4 mark in his last five starts. He's given up 18 earned runs over his last three appearances, covering just 11 1/3 innings. Porcello has never faced the Giants.
Detroit won two of three meetings with San Francisco the last time these two clubs met from June 16-18, 2008 at AT&T Park. The Giants have won seven of the last 11 matchups in this series.
