Hudson does it all as Diamondbacks down Dodgers

Jul 18, 2011 - 1:01 AM Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Daniel Hudson dazzled Los Angeles hitters as the Diamondbacks beat the Dodgers, 4-1, in the rubber match of a three-game set.

Hudson (10-5) went the distance, giving up just one run on five hits in his second career complete game. He has not lost a game in his past 12 starts, going 7-0 since a loss at San Francisco on May 12.

He also led Arizona offensively, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run and three RBI. Ryan Roberts added a solo homer.

Matt Kemp went 1-for-4 and scored the Dodgers' only run as the team lost two straight after winning its previous five.

Ted Lilly (6-10) took the loss after giving up four runs on four hits over 6 2/3 innings.

The Diamondbacks took a 2-0 lead on a Hudson solo blast. The pitcher launched a 1-1 fastball into the left field seats for his first career homer.

"The guy pitches, the guy hits, they guy pitches into the ninth inning. He throws strong every time he is out," Roberts said of Hudson. "He has been phenomenal and swinging the bat has been a huge plus."

The Dodgers cut the deficit to one in the seventh. Matt Kemp hit a lead off single, then move to third when James Loney singled up the middle with a hit- and-run on. Kemp then scored on a wild pitch from Hudson.

But Arizona scored two more in the seventh to take a 4-1 lead. Chris Young led off with a single to right-center, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Roberts was then intentionally walked. Both runners advanced on a Miguel Montero ground out before Lilly intentionally loaded the bases. Hudson singled through the hole at shortstop to knock in Young and Roberts.

Arizona jumped to 1-0 lead in the second after Roberts homered. Ted Lilly delivered a 1-1 change-up and Roberts crushed it to left.

"The pitch to Hudson wasn't very good," Lilly said. "The pitch that Ryan Roberts hit out was a split that just kind of hung up there for him. I made some mistakes there and when you're going up against a guy that is throwing the ball pretty good like that you just don't have the luxury to do that."

Game Notes

Hudson recorded his 200th career strikeout...The Dodgers fell to 16-17 against divisional opponents...The Los Angeles bullpen has not allowed a run in seven straight games.
