Treanor pushes Royals past White Sox

Danny Duffy (2-4) struggled early in the game, but settled in to throw seven strong innings for the win. He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks as the Royals snapped their three-game losing streak.
"I thought I was pretty efficient after the first inning, but my team just played their butts off," said Duffy. "I was just so hyped in the dugout because we were just playing so hard. It was a really good game."
Joakim Soria faced the minimum in the ninth to earn his 17th save of the year.
Jake Peavy (4-4) lasted six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk in Chicago's second loss in three games.
"Just a few pitches too short, but at the same time a loss is a loss. I don't like losing," Peavy said about his performance.
Juan Pierre was hit by a pitch to lead off the game and Alexei Ramirez followed with a walk. After a Paul Konerko strikeout, Carlos Quentin slapped a soft liner up the middle for a single, scoring Pierre. Alex Rios came up next and hit a hard grounder to the left side of the infield. Alcides Escobar made a diving grab of the ball, but by the time he regained his feet he had no play and Ramirez crossed the plate to give the White Sox an early two-run advantage. Brent Lillibridge struck out swinging and Gordon Beckham grounded out to third to end the inning.
The Royals cut the lead in half in the second. Eric Hosmer led off the frame with a single and Treanor doubled down the third-base line to put runners on second and third. Two batters later, Escobar's weak grounder to third brought home Hosmer.
Kansas City then took the lead in the sixth. After a Billy Butler single and a Jeff Francoeur double put runners on second and third with one out, Hosmer was intentionally walked to load the bases. Treanor stepped up next and lined a single into center field, scoring Butler and Francoeur. Hosmer moved to third on Treanor's single, but was tagged out in a rundown when he broke for the plate on Mike Moustakas' grounder to third and Escobar followed with a flyout to left that ended the inning.
Melky Cabrera's two-out, solo home run into the left-field bleachers in the seventh inning extended the Royals' lead to 4-2.
Chicago stranded men on second and third in the third and left a man on second in the fourth, but the White Sox would not have another runner reach scoring position for the remainder of the game as Duffy, Greg Holland, and Soria shut the door on the offense.
