Fister, Mariners hope to halt 11-game skid vs. Blue Jays

The Mariners' skid reached 11 games in the matchup's second contest on Wednesday, when Travis Snider hit a three-run homer and drove in five as Toronto routed Seattle, 11-6.
It's Seattle's longest losing streak since a 12-game slide during the 2008 season. Starter Jason Vargas (6-8) and the rest of the Mariners' pitchers gave up 14 hits and seven walks, with Vargas on the hook for five runs on six hits and five walks over just three innings.
Brendan Ryan had two singles and a double and scored twice, while Dustin Ackley hit a two-run homer as part of a three-RBI night for the Mariners.
Toronto's Brandon Morrow (7-4) gave up three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and three walks over seven innings.
Edwin Encarnacion came within a triple of the cycle, hitting a solo homer and scoring four runs. Adam Lind also hit a solo home run and scored twice for the Blue Jays, who improved to 3-2 against the Mariners this season.
Fister, a seventh-round draft pick in 2007, reached the majors with 11 appearances in 2009 and made 28 starts while pitching 171 innings last season.
He was 3-5 this year after a 4-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on May 30, but is 0-6 in eight starts since, including a 4-0 loss to Texas on July 15, in which he allowed four runs in 7 2/3 innings.
The 27-year-old has allowed three earned runs or less in five of the eight starts in the drought and has lasted at least seven innings in seven of eight, including a 1-0 complete-game loss to San Diego on July 10.
He's 0-2 lifetime against Toronto, allowing seven runs on 12 hits in 14 2/3 innings.
The Blue Jays counter with lefty Ricky Romero, who's dropped two straight since a shutout defeat of the St. Louis Cardinals on June 26.
In that interleague game, Romero allowed four hits and struck out five while improving to 7-7 on the season.
He's given up 21 hits and 11 earned runs in 15 2/3 innings since, losing to Boston and the New York Yankees and getting a no-decision against Philadelphia.
Toronto has lost all three of those recent starts and is 7-12 in his 19 overall starts this season.
Seattle won two of three matchups with Toronto from April 11-13 this season at Safeco Field.
