Diamondbacks turn to Collmenter against Dodgers

Jul 29, 2011 - 3:02 PM (Sports Network) - Josh Collmenter shoots for a third straight win this evening when the Arizona Diamondbacks open a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

Collmenter continued to impress on Saturday, as he held Colorado to three runs and six hits in seven innings to run his record to 6-5, while lowering his ERA to 2.74.

The three runs he allowed in that one were the only three to cross the plate on him in his last three starts, spanning 21 innings.

Collmenter beat the Dodgers earlier in the year, scattering two hits over six scoreless innings.

The young right-hander will be trying to get the Diamondbacks back into the win column tonight after the team saw their four-game win streak stopped on Thursday in 4-3 loss to the San Diego Padres.

Brandon Allen belted a two-run homer and finished with three RBI, while Daniel Hudson (10-7) surrendered four runs on seven hits while fanning six in as many frames to suffer the loss.

"Stupid two-out walk," said Hudson. "It's unacceptable. I do it all the time. I get two quick outs and then for some reason I can't find the zone for the third guy."

Justin Upton has hit safely in his last nine games and is batting .545 (18- for-33) with five home runs and 15 RBI during that stretch. However, he is just 1-for-22 against the Dodgers this season and is only a .222 hitter against them in his career.

The Dodgers also had a four-game winning streak halted in their last game when they dropped a a 3-1 decision to the Colorado Rockies.

Hiroki Kuroda (6-13), in possibly his last start with the Dodgers as the trade deadline approaches, was charged with the loss after allowing one run on six hits and three walks in six frames.

"You feel bad for Hiroki. He does exactly what we tell him to do. He gives us a chance to win the game, and we didn't get him any runs," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said.

Tonight, Los Angeles will rely on lefty Ted Lilly, who is 6-10 with a 5.08 ERA. Lilly did not get a decision Saturday against Washington, but was pounded for six runs and eight hits in five innings of a 7-6 win.

Lilly lost to the D-Backs the last time he faced them and is 3-6 in 11 games (nine starts) against them with a 4.60 ERA.

Arizona is 4-2 versus the Dodgers this season.
