Nicasio goes for Rox against Nats
Aug 5, 2011 - 2:48 PM (Sports Network) - Right-hander Juan Nicasio can make it five straight winning decisions on his Coors Field home turf tonight when the Colorado Rockies host the Washington Nationals in the second test of a four-game series.The hosts broke out on top of the series Thursday night when Troy Tulowitzki had three hits, including a solo home run, and two runs scored to lead the Rockies past the Nationals, 6-3.
Eric Young Jr. knocked in two runs for the Rockies to help snap a four-game losing streak.
Esmil Rogers (5-1) allowed one run while scattering seven hits and two walks through 5 2/3 innings. He also struck out six in his first start since April 25. He has made three appearances out of the Rockies' bullpen since then.
Ross Detwiler (1-1) went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks for the loss in his second start of the year.
Ryan Zimmerman had three hits and two RBI to extend his hit streak to 13 games in Washington's second straight loss.
Nicasio, who'll turn 25 later this month, was a 4-0 winner over the Milwaukee Brewers in his last home decision on July 15, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings.
He faced the visiting Atlanta Braves five days later and gave up a run on five hits over seven innings while getting a no-decision in a game the Rockies ultimately won, 3-2.
Nicasio's started twice on the road since and gone 0-1 with a no-decision, giving up 11 hits and seven runs in 12 2/3 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.
In six home starts thus far, Nicasio has posted a 1.58 earned run average across 40 innings.
He has never faced the Nationals.
For Washington, righty Jordan Zimmermann aims for a second straight win over the Rockies.
The 25-year-old earned a 2-0 decision over Colorado on July 10 in Washington after allowing four hits in 6 1/3 scoreless innings.
In two combined starts against the Rockies, the Wisconsin native has allowed just two earned run in 10 1/3 innings while allowing 11 hits and posting a 1.74 ERA.
He's 0-2 with a no-decision in three starts since the Colorado victory, allowing 22 hits and 12 runs in 17 2/3 innings.
Colorado has won three of four from the Nats this season.
