Orioles send Tillman to hill vs. Blue Jays

Aug 6, 2011 - 3:36 PM (Sports Network) - Chris Tillman will make his second start since being placed back into the starting rotation for the Baltimore Orioles when they take on the Toronto Blue Jays tonight in the second installment of a three-game set at Camden Yards.

Tillman is one of the many young arms in Baltimore's system, but just like most of the young hurlers, Tillman has been wildly inconsistent. In 11 starts this year the right-hander has tossed at least six innings in an outing only three times.

The last time Tillman was on the bump, he was overpowered by the Yankees' bats, as New York pounded him for seven runs -- five earned -- on eight hits and one walk. Tillman did strike out six batters, but lasted only 4 1/3 innings.

Tillman is looking for his first victory against Toronto in his brief career. The righty has already faced the division-rival Jays four times, posting an 0-2 mark in those matchups with a weak 5.01 earned run average.

The Blue Jays will turn to Brandon Morrow, who is quickly becoming one of the most reliable pitchers up north. The hard-throwing right-hander is coming off an 11 strike out performance in a win over Texas.

Morrow surrendered only two runs on six hits in seven inning, earning his fifth win in his last seven matchups.

Unlike most pitchers, Morrow has found success on the road rather than in front of a favorable crowd. The flamethrower is 4-0 with an impressive 2.88 earned run average in eight starts.

Morrow, who has also spent time in the bullpen, has made four starts and 11 overall appearances against Baltimore in his career. One of those starts came earlier this season, and it is an outing the righty would like to forget, as he surrendered seven runs on nine hits. In just 3 1/3 innings of work Morrow allowed three home runs and also struck out five batters.

On Friday, Aaron Hill knocked in two runs and Brett Lawrie recorded his first major league hit and RBI as the Blue Jays downed the Orioles, 5-4.

Lawrie, Toronto's highly-touted third base prospect, went 2-for-4 in his big league debut, helping the Blue Jays halt a two-game skid.

Brad Mills (1-1), making just his second start of the season, allowed three runs on four hits over 5 1/3 frames to earn the win.

Tommy Hunter (1-2), in his first start with the Orioles since being acquired from Texas, lasted just four innings, surrendering four runs on eight hits to suffer the loss.

Adam Jones belted a two-run homer for the Orioles, losers of three in a row.

Jon Rauch allowed a Nick Markakis RBI double in the ninth, but settled to record his 11th save of the season.

Toronto has won seven of 10 meetings with the O's this season and have won 22 of 28 games against them since the start of last season, while posting an 9-4 mark at Camden Yards in that time.
