White Sox attempt sweep in Seattle
Aug 28, 2011 - 2:36 PMVideo
Floyd was magnificent in beating the Texas Rangers last Sunday, as he scattered three hits over seven scoreless innings to improve to 11-10, while lowering his earned run average to 4.45.
Floyd has faced the Mariners 13 times (11 starts) and is 3-4 with a 4.66 ERA against them.
Seattle, meanwhile, will counter with lefty Jason Vargas, who is 7-11 with a 4.18 ERA. Vargas did not get a decision on Monday in Cleveland, despite giving up just two unearned runs and seven hits in seven innings of a 3-2 win.
Vargas has yet to record a decision in four games (three starts) against the White Sox, but has pitched to a 4.74 ERA in 19 innings of those outings.
On Saturday, John Danks continued his amazing turnaround, as he matched his career-high with 10 strikeouts in a complete-game shutout in Chicago's 3-0 win.
Danks (6-9), who scattered three hits and walked one, has won six of his last seven decisions after beginning the 2011 season 0-8.
Chicago has won four of six and remains seven games behind the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central.
Michael Pineda (9-8) was the hard-luck loser for Seattle after allowing two runs on three hits with one walk and eight strikeouts through six frames.
Seattle has now lost eight of 11.
Chicago has won six of eight meetings so far with Seattle this season and is 15-3 in this series since the start of the 2010 campaign.
