Reds resume road trip in Colorado

Sep 9, 2011 - 3:04 PM (Sports Network) - The Cincinnati Reds will resume their lengthy road trip tonight with the first of three straight games against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

The Reds have lost 10 in a row in the Rocky Mountains and are 3-3 so far on a nine-game trek through St. Louis, Chicago and now Colorado. They dropped two of three to the Cubs at Wrigley Field and suffered a 6-3 setback in Wednesday's series finale.

Yonder Alonso had three hits and an RBI, while Joey Votto and Jay Bruce both had two hits and knocked in a run for Cincinnati, which lost for the seventh time in 10 tries.

Logan Ondrusek was handed the loss and starter Johnny Cueto gave up three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts over seven innings.

"Anytime you have these games where they are close games, it's tough," said Alonso. "You just have to move forward with it, learn from it and keep playing."

Homer Bailey draws the start for Cincinnati tonight and he's 7-7 with a 4.57 ERA in 18 starts. Bailey is 0-2 in his past four outings and was beaten by St. Louis in Saturday's 6-4 loss at Busch Stadium, where he gave up five runs -- four earned -- in only three innings.

Bailey, a right-hander, is only 2-4 in nine road assignments this season and 0-2 with a 7.23 ERA in four career starts against the Rockies.

Colorado has dropped three of four games and just lost two of three meetings with Arizona at Coors Field. In Wednesday's 5-3 loss in the series finale, Kevin Millwood got the start for the Rockies and allowed four runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings for the loss.

Carlos Gonzalez, Wilin Rosario and Millwood all homered for the Rockies.

"They've been doing it all year. That's why they have 82 wins right now," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said of Arizona.

Jhoulys Chacin gets the call for Colorado tonight and he's 11-10 with a 3.60 ERA in 27 starts this season. He has won two straight and three of five starts, including an Aug. 28 win at Los Angeles. Chacin survived for the win even though he allowed four runs and six hits in five innings.

The righty lost at Cincinnati on Aug. 11 this season and is 1-1 with a 2.55 ERA in four career games (2 starts) against the Reds.

Cincinnati and Colorado have split four meetings this season -- all at Great American Ball Park.
