Diamondbacks rally to edge Padres

Daniel Hudson (16-9) survived a leadoff double in the ninth to finish off his third complete game this year. The right-hander gave up just two runs -- one earned -- on five hits while striking out seven.
"I didn't have great command at the beginning, just kind of pushed through it," Hudson said. "They were pretty aggressive early in the game, so I just told myself to try a push through and get them in the end."
Justin Upton homered and Gerardo Parra hit a game-tying RBI triple in the seventh, helping Arizona win its 14th straight at home while extending its NL West lead to 8 1/2 games over the Giants.
Chad Qualls (6-7) gave up the game-winning run in relief of Mat Latos, who yielded two runs on eight hits over seven innings for the Padres, losers in four of their last five.
The D-Backs, wearing the purple and teal pinstripes jerseys they wore during their championship run 10 years ago, were down 2-1 before Parra tripled in Chris Young in the seventh.
Parra was thrown out at home by left fielder Kyle Blanks later in the inning, but Arizona went ahead in its next turn at the plate.
Aaron Hill worked a walk to start the frame and moved to third on Miguel Montero's one-out single. Ryan Roberts went down swinging for the second out before Overbay singled up the middle to bring in the eventual winning run.
Jesus Guzman legged out a double to begin the ninth, but Hudson retired Nick Hundley, Blanks and James Darnell in succession to strand the runner on third and continue the hosts' terrific stretch at Chase Field.
"We had a chance and we couldn't get [Guzman] in," Padres manager Bud Black said. "For us to win, any team to win, you have to be proficient at getting the guy in from third base."
Willie Bloomquist's throwing error in the away third allowed Alberto Gonzalez to reach second, and Will Venable singled two batters later to bring in the first run. Upton nearly threw out Gonzalez at home, but the runner avoided Montero's tag.
Jason Bartlett doubled to open the sixth, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and raced home on Guzman's sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.
Upton's 30th home run of the year in the home sixth halved the deficit.
