Mets continue series with Nationals

Sep 13, 2011 - 2:48 PM (Sports Network) - Second-year phenom Dillon Gee can stay unbeaten in his brief career against the Washington Nationals tonight when the New York Mets play the second of four games at Citi Field.

Washington won the opener on Monday when Steve Lombardozzi singled in the go- ahead run in the seventh inning of a 3-2 triumph.

Wilson Ramos went 2-for-4 and drove in a run for the Nationals, who have won three of four.

Todd Coffey (5-1) struck out the reigning NL Player of the Week, Jason Bay, to strand two runners in the sixth, earning the win behind Ross Detwiler.

Mets starter R.A. Dickey (8-12) yielded three runs -- two earned -- on eight hits in the loss, New York's third straight. The knuckleballer fanned seven in as many innings.

Gee, a 25-year-old Texas native, is 3-0 in four career starts against Washington, including an 8-5 win at Nationals Park on July 29.

In that game, Gee allowed two earned runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings, walking four batters and striking out five.

He's faced them one more time since and escaped with a no-decision after surrendering six runs on eight hits in five innings of an 8-7 New York loss.

In 32 major-league appearances across two seasons, Gee has allowed 86 runs in 177 2/3 innings, walking 77 batters and striking out 120.

Starting for Washington is returning veteran Chien-Ming Wang, who came back from a two-year injury hiatus in late June and has won two of five decisions in eight starts.

He dropped the initial two games of his comeback against the Mets and Atlanta, then subsequently beat the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati before losing again at Atlanta on Sept. 1.

Against the Mets on July 29, he lasted just four innings and was touched for six runs on eight hits while facing Gee for the first time.

Lifetime against New York, he is 2-2 in four starts with a 5.26 earned run average in 25 2/3 innings.

New York has won eight of 15 over Washington this season.
