Rockies open series in Houston

Colorado will try to salvage some pride on the road as it begins a four-game series tonight with the Houston Astros.
Playing in front of the Denver faithful for the final time this season, the Rockies were shut out, 4-0, by the Padres, who scored all of their runs off Colorado starter Aaron Cook in the first inning.
Cook threw four scoreless innings after that, but Colorado could not get its bats going and lost seven straight at Coors Field for the first time in club history.
After winning 52 games at home in 2010, that total fell to 38 this season.
"I don't have any more words to commend their loyalty, it's unbelievable. And I feel like to a certain extent we let them down, and that hurts more than you can possibly imagine," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said of Colorado's fan base.
With an eye towards 2012, Alex White gets the start tonight for the Rockies and has allowed at least four runs in all five of his starts since coming over in a trade with the Indians. Still, the right-hander had a chance to win a third straight start on Friday, but suffered a loss to the Giants after giving up six runs on nine hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings.
White has struggled keeping the ball in the park. He allowed a pair of homers to the Giants and has given up 11 in his five outings with the Rockies. That has led to a 2-2 record and 8.46 earned run average.
"I just wanted to give them the innings and get the work in," White said. "Hopefully I can get all this stuff out of the way before next year."
The 23-year-old faced Houston on Aug. 23 for the first time and did not get a decision after yielding five runs over six innings. He did serve up homers to Carlos Lee and Jimmy Paredes.
Houston also failed to mount any offense on Wednesday, falling to Cincinnati, 2-0, in the rubber match of a three-game series. Wandy Rodriguez gave up both runs over seven innings, but the Astros went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position to wrap up a 2-4 road trip.
"Today was one of the most disappointing and frustrating games for me," Houston manager Brad Mills said on his team's website. "We had some opportunities and couldn't get them."
Henry Sosa hopes to avoid a fourth straight losing start this evening after struggling with his command on Saturday against the Cubs. The righty was charged with only two runs, but had to work around four hits and five walks over six innings. He also struck out five in the 2-1 loss.
Sosa, 26, is 2-5 with a 4.74 ERA over his first eight big league starts and faces the Rockies for the first time.
Colorado swept a three-game set at home over Houston from Aug. 22-24.
