Dodgers eye series win over Phillies

Jun 30, 2013 - 2:39 PM (Sports Network) - Stephen Fife tries to pitch the Los Angeles Dodgers to a series win on Sunday when they close out their four-game set with the Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium.

Fife beat the San Francisco Giants his last time out, as he surrendered three runs and four hits in 6 2/3 innings to run his record to 2-2 to go along with a 3.41 ERA. He not get a decision in his only other start versus the Phillies.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, will counter with righty Kyle Kendrick, who has pitched six or more innings and allowed three runs or less in four of his five starts during June.

Kendrick earned the win in San Diego on Tuesday, as he surrendered two runs and seven hits in eight innings to improve to 7-4, while lowering his ERA to 3.46.

In 10 career games against the Dodgers, seven of which have been starts, Kendrick is 5-4 with a 7.58 ERA.

On Saturday, A.J. Ellis singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Los Angeles to a 4-3 win.

After the Phillies tied the game in the top of the ninth, Hanley Ramirez led off the bottom half with a single to center field off Justin De Fratus.

De Fratus (2-3) responded with a strikeout of Matt Kemp, but walked Andre Ethier before Ellis smacked a single through the right side of the infield, allowing Ramirez to slide in just ahead of right fielder Delmon Young's throw to the plate to send the Dodgers to victory.

"It was a fastball. Maybe I went to the well too many times," De Fratus said of the final pitch to Ellis. "He's a big league hitter and he was ready for it."

Kenley Jansen (2-3) earned the victory, despite giving up the game-tying run in the top of the ninth.

Ramirez finished with three hits, including a three-run homer, and scored twice for the Dodgers, who bounced back from Friday's 16-1 rout to earn their seventh win in their last eight games.

"I was in protect mode and I tried to find a place that no one was at," Ellis said of his game-winning hit. "It's huge to come through with a small piece of our win tonight."

Chase Utley smacked a pair of solo shots for Philadelphia, which is 3-3 thus far on its 10-game road trip.

Los Angeles was 5-2 versus the Phillies last season.
