Rockies option INF Quintanilla to minor leagues

Jul 17, 2007 - 9:16 PM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Colorado Rockies optioned infielder Omar Quintanilla to Class AAA Colorado Springs, the team announced Tuesday.

Quintanilla was recalled before Friday's 10-6 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers to take the roster spot of injured closer Brian Fuentes. In his second stint with the club, Quintanilla appeared in just one of the Rockies' four contests during that span.

He is hitting .256 with three doubles, no homers and two RBI in 15 games at second base this season.

In a corresponding move, Colorado recalled righthander Ubaldo Jimenez from Colorado Springs. Jimenez has gone 8-5 with a 5.85 ERA in 19 games in the minor leagues.
