Athletics activate C-DH Piazza from DL

Jul 21, 2007 - 2:55 AM OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Oakland Athletics on Friday activated catcher-designated hitter Mike Piazza from the 15-day disabled list.

Piazza was placed on the DL with a sprained right shoulder, which he suffered in the sixth inning of a 6-4 loss at Boston on May 2 when he collided with Mike Lowell at third base. Piazza was batting .282 with one home run and eight RBI in 26 games with Oakland before the injury.

The veteran slugger went 10-for-26 with a pair of homers in rehab stints with Class AAA Sacramento and Class A Stockton.

With the Athletics' trade of catcher Jason Kendall earlier in the week, Piazza is expected to make occasional starts behind the plate for the remainder of the season.

In a corresponding move, Oakland optioned righthander Shane Komine to Sacramento. He was 0-0 with a 4.70 ERA in two relief appearances with the A's.
