Astros designate 3B Ensberg for assignment

Jul 29, 2007 - 4:50 PM HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Morgan Ensberg is the man who must make way for Ty Wigginton.

The Houston Astros on Sunday designated third baseman Ensberg for assignment, a day after acquiring the infielder Wigginton from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Houston sent reliever Dan Wheeler to St. Petersburg to get Wigginton, and restocked their bullpen by calling up lefthander Mark McLemore from Class AAA Round Rock with Ensberg making room on the roster.

Ensberg, 31, is hitting a disappointing .232 with eight home runs and 31 RBI in 85 games this season. His batting average is down from a career mark of .266.

McLemore returns for a fourth stint with the Astros this season, sporting a 7.11 ERA through 6 1/3 innings.
