Padres place OF Hairston on disabled list

Aug 10, 2007 - 8:48 PM CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- The San Diego Padres on Friday placed outfielder Scott Hairston on the 15-day disabled list prior to their game with the Cincinnati Reds.

Hairston, 27, suffered a strained left oblique muscle in the sixth inning of Thursday's game at the St. Louis Cardinals. In 11 games, Hairston has hit .400 (8-for-20) with three home runs and seven RBI since being acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 27 for righthander Leo Rosales.

The Padres also recalled lefthander Joe Thatcher from Class AAA Portland, purchased the contract of righthander Jack Cassel from Portland and placed righthander Doug Brocail on the bereavement list.

Thatcher, 25, who was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers as part of the deal involving righthander Scott Linebrink, did not allow a run in two innings during his previous stint with the Padres.

In 24 relief appearances this season with Class AAA Nashville, Thatcher was 2-1 with one save and a 2.08 ERA.

Cassel, 28, is 7-11 with a 3.54 ERA in 24 games at Portland this season.

Brocail, 40, is 4-1 with a 3.96 ERA in 43 appearances with the Padres this season.
