Dodgers down Padres
Apr 3, 2014 - 7:38 AM San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Hanley Ramirez finished with two runs batted in and two runs scored in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 5-1 win over the San Diego Padres in the rubber match of a three-game set from Petco Park.Dan Haren (1-0) earned his first win as a Dodger, scattering just four hits and an unearned run while fanning six in six strong frames in his LA debut. Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford had two hits apiece in the win.
"I got some strikeouts in big situations. Everything was working pretty good," Haren said.
Everth Cabrera doubled and scored for San Diego, with Yonder Alonso driving in the lone run. Tyson Ross (0-1) started and struck out seven, but yielded four runs -- three earned -- in five innings of work.
"I thought Tyson's stuff was good, but he just couldn't command the fastball early," said Padres manager Bud Black.
The Dodgers scored three runs in the top of the first inning, aided by Ross' fielding error. Crawford opened the game with a double and moved to third on Yasiel Puig's sacrifice bunt. Puig reached on the error, and both players scored on a Ramirez double. Adrian Gonzalez then singled home Ramirez, and it was 3-0 before Ross had recorded an out.
The score stuck until Alonso's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth put San Diego on the board. With two runners on base and just one out, Haren struck out Jedd Gyorko and Will Venable to avoid further damage.
LA plated insurance runs in the fifth and eighth innings, while four relievers combined to pitch three scoreless innings to seal the win.
Ethier's RBI single off Ross in the fifth made it 4-1, and Dee Gordon brought home Juan Uribe with a double off Robbie Erlin in the eighth.
Game Notes
