Tigers, Cabrera aim for 4-0 start

Apr 5, 2014 - 1:27 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Miguel Cabrera has put up big numbers in his career against Baltimore and on Saturday aims to continue that success when the Detroit Tigers resume a three-game set versus the Orioles at Comerica Park.

The reigning two-time AL MVP entered this series with a .390 average with 16 homers and 44 RBI lifetime against the O's. Those stats were beefed up after Detroit's 10-4 win Friday afternoon as Cabrera put the finishing touches on his four-hit game with his 2,000th career hit -- a two-run homer in the eighth inning.

"Miggy's 30 years old and he's got 2,000 hits," Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter said. "What you're seeing every day is nothing but history. And it's an honor to watch him play whether you're a player or a fan."

Cabrera's sublime efforts highlighted a 17-hit outburst by the Tigers, who will try to go 4-0 Saturday for the second time in three years.

Meanwhile, the Orioles arrived in Detroit late Thursday night after losing two of three to Boston in their season-opening series at Camden Yards.

"It kind of affected the team a little bit but this is baseball," said Orioles catcher Steve Clevenger, who had an RBI. "You have to come ready to play every day no matter what the circumstance is."

The Orioles will send Bud Norris to the mound Saturday. The right-hander, who was acquired by the Orioles from Houston at last year's trade deadline, compiled a 4-3 mark with a 4.80 ERA in 11 games (9 starts) after his arrival in Baltimore. He's 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in two career starts against the Tigers.

Detroit counters with Rick Porcello, who is coming off a season that saw the right-hander post a 13-8 mark with a 4.32 ERA in 32 games (29 starts). He's 1-5 with a 5.14 ERA in seven games against the Orioles.

Chris Davis' two-run double into right-field corner in the first inning staked the Orioles to a lead, but the Tigers pushed three runs across in the second and four more in the fourth to take control of Friday's contest.

The Orioles won four of the six meetings against the Tigers last season.
