Angels go after third straight win in Houston

Apr 6, 2014 - 2:13 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Scott Feldman tries to follow up a terrific Opening Day start on Sunday when the Houston Astros continue a four-game set with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Minute Maid Park.

Feldman got the best of CC Sabathia and the New York Yankees on Tuesday, limiting them to just a pair of hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings. He joined Roy Oswalt as the only starters in Astros history to pitch at least six scoreless innings in the club's first game of the season.

"Total team effort," Feldman said. "We came out from the get-go and put those runs on the board. CC is a great pitcher, but we were able to get him a little bit early tonight, and that made my job easier."

Feldman has faced the Angels 21 times (12 starts) and is 4-6 with a 5.31 ERA.

Los Angeles, meanwhile, will turn to its ace, righty Jered Weaver, who absorbed the loss his first time out. Weaver held the Seattle Mariners to just one run over the first five innings, but things started to unravel after that and ended the game surrendering four runs (3 earned) and six hits in 6 1/3 frames.

Weaver beat the Astros the only other time he faced them.

On Saturday, Tyler Skaggs tossed eight innings to help the Angels pull out a 5-1 win.

Skaggs (1-0) gave up four hits and an unearned run along with a walk and five strikeouts. Josh Hamilton homered for a second straight game as the Angels have taken the first two of this set after getting swept by Seattle to start the season.

"Just small changes I've made that will help me throw more strikes," said Skaggs. "I think all of that clicked today and hopefully I'll continue to grow."

Dallas Keuchel (0-1) gave up four runs on eight hits over five innings for the Astros, who have lost three in a row after opening the season with a pair of wins over the Yankees.

"I think we need to be a little more patient because he was able to expand his strike zone since we were swinging at a lot of pitches," said Houston head coach Bo Porter.

The Astros edged the Angels in the season series 10-9 last season, but lost six of the nine games played in Houston.
