Quintana hopes to slow down Rockies' bats
Apr 8, 2014 - 2:55 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Colombian lefty Jose Quintana becomes the latest pitcher to try and slow down a suddenly potent Colorado offense on Tuesday night when the Chicago White Sox visit the Rockies at Coors Field for the middle test of a three-game series.Quintana allowed five runs in six innings of his 2014 debut on Thursday, but did not get a decision in Chicago's 10-9 loss to Minnesota.
He's 2-1 in his career with a 2.08 earned run average against National League opponents.
Making in even tougher on Quintana is the fact that the Rockies have bashed southpaws through the early stages of the season, hitting at a .321 clip through 56 at-bats.
Colorado, meanwhile, starts lefty Franklin Morales, who also failed to fare in a decision in his 2014 curtain-raiser in Miami on Thursday.
The Venezuelan allowed three runs in 5 1/3 innings in a game the Rockies ultimately lost, 8-5.
He threw 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief at Coors Field while a member of the Boston Red Sox in 2013. He hasn't started a game there since he spent 2007 through 2011 with the Rockies and made 15 starts.
Morales has thrown 3 1/3 scoreless innings against the White Sox in four career meetings.
On Monday, Starting pitcher Jordan Lyles was the offensive star, going 6 2/3 innings on the mound and 3-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in at the plate to lead the Rockies to an 8-1 win.
Lyles (2-0) allowed just one run on five hits while striking out four.
Troy Tulowitzki went 3-for-3 with a solo homer and two runs scored and Carlos Gonzalez added two hits and a homer for the Rockies, who took two of three from the Diamondbacks over the weekend.
Alexei Ramirez drove in the lone run for Chicago, which has dropped four of its last five games.
Felipe Paulino (0-1) allowed six runs on nine hits and four walks in just 4 1/3 innings to saddle the loss.
Chicago took two of three from Colorado the last time these teams met back in 2011.
