Braun's 3 HRs, 7 RBI spoil Phillies' home opener

Apr 9, 2014 - 4:01 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Braun hit three home runs and drove in a career-high seven, as the Milwaukee Brewers rolled to a 10-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.

Booed by a crowd of 45,061, Braun nonetheless recorded his second career three-homer effort, after doing so at San Diego on May 1, 2012 in an 8-3 victory. In the process, he upped his career numbers to .405 with 10 home runs and 21 RBI in 20 career games at Citizens Bank Park.

"It's very motivating," Braun said of being booed.

Mark Reynolds and Scooter Gennett added two hits and an RBI apiece for the Brewers, who are coming off a weekend sweep in Boston. Carlos Gomez and Jean Segura contributed two hits and two runs scored each for the victorious visitors.

Kyle Lohse (1-1) walked five and allowed seven hits, but limited his opponents to three runs and fanned four over his five-inning outing.

Jimmy Rollins hit safely twice and drove in two, Marlon Byrd and Cody Asche knocked in a run each and Ben Revere had two hits and scored twice for the Phillies, in their 2014 home opener which was called off Monday due to the threat of rain.

"It's not a good way to have an Opening Day, that's for sure. It was sloppy," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said.

Kyle Kendrick (0-1) was tagged in defeat for nine hits and six runs -- four earned -- over five full frames.

Milwaukee was up 6-1, but saw its lead whittled to 6-4. Khris Davis kept the seventh alive for the Brewers with a two-out hit and scored when Revere failed to glove a Reynolds fly to deep center, and the visitors led by a 7-4 count.

In the eighth, Gomez doubled and Segura was plunked before Braun deposited his third longball of the contest into the left-center field bleachers off Brad Lincoln to make it 10-4.

Brandon Kintzler tossed a scoreless home half and Jim Henderson followed suit in the ninth to close out the rout.

The Phils picked up a run in the first as Carlos Ruiz walked, Ryan Howard doubled and Byrd was credited with a single that Segura failed to corral on a bad hop to plate Ruiz.

Milwaukee evened things in the second, when Jonathan Lucroy doubled with one down and scored on a two-out single from Reynolds, then surged ahead 5-1 in the third on a three-run homer from Braun and an RBI single from Gennett.

Braun connected again with two down in the fourth to make it a five-run bulge, before a Rollins double plated Revere in the home half.

Asche brought home Domonic Brown with a two-out base hit in the bottom of the fifth to pull the hosts within 6-3, and in the next frame Revere tripled and scored on a Rollins hit for a two-run spread.
