Braun hopes to lead Brewers to another win in Philly

Apr 9, 2014 - 2:47 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Braun tries to guide the Milwaukee Brewers to their fifth straight win on Wednesday when they continue a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Braun silenced the Philly crowd in Tuesday's opener, as he hit three home runs and drove in a career-high seven in Milwaukee's 10-4 rout.

Booed by a crowd of 45,061, Braun nonetheless recorded his second career three-homer effort, after doing so at San Diego on May 1, 2012. In the process, he upped his career numbers to .405 with 10 home runs and 21 RBI in 20 career games at Citizens Bank Park.

"It's very motivating," Braun said of being booed.

Mark Reynolds and Scooter Gennett added two hits and an RBI apiece for the Brewers, who are coming off a weekend sweep in Boston. Carlos Gomez and Jean Segura contributed two hits and two runs scored each for the victorious visitors.

A win on Wednesday would give the Brewers their first 5-0 road start since winning its first seven away from home in 1987.

Kyle Lohse (1-1) walked five and allowed seven hits, but limited his opponents to three runs and fanned four over his five-inning outing.

Jimmy Rollins hit safely twice and drove in two, Marlon Byrd and Cody Asche knocked in a run each and Ben Revere had two hits and scored twice for the Phillies, in their 2014 home opener which was called off Monday due to the threat of rain.

"It's not a good way to have an Opening Day, that's for sure. It was sloppy," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said.

Kyle Kendrick (0-1) was tagged in defeat for nine hits and six runs -- four earned -- over five full frames.

The Phillies were without second baseman Chase Utley, who missed the game with the flu. He is expected to be back in the lineup on

Milwaukee now turns to righty Matt Garza, who was terrific in his first start of the year, but was charged with a hard-luck loss against Atlanta. Garza carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of that one, but surrendered a two-out home run to Chris Johnson. That would be the only run of the game and one of just two hits Garza allowed over eight innings.

"I liked the way he threw the ball today," Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said. "He's going to win a lot of games if he pitches like that. We just need to score runs."

Garza is 2-1 with a 1.30 ERA in five regular-season starts against the Phillies,

Philadelphia, meanwhile, hands the ball to righty Roberto Hernandez, who will be trying for his second win of the season. Hernandez beat the Chicago Cubs on Friday, allowing just two runs over 5 1/3 innings.

"He did his job today. He looked good," Sandberg said. "Really liked his two- seam fastball, action on it was going down pretty good."

Milwaukee was 5-2 against Philadelphia last season.
