Cain, Anderson both take aim at first win

Apr 12, 2014 - 1:54 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Two pitchers trying to find their way square off on Saturday, as Matt Cain and the San Francisco Giants continue a three-game set against Brett Anderson and the Colorado Rockies at AT&T Park.

Cain absorbed the loss to Los Angeles on Sunday, as he allowed five runs and six hits in six innings to fall to 0-1 on the year, while raising his ERA to 5.73.

However, he may be able to get himself untracked on Saturday, as he is 17-7 lifetime versus the Rockies with a 3.21 ERA in 31 starts. In fact, he's 6-0 with a 3.09 ERA in seven starts against the Rockies since June 3, 2011, and has held them to a .198 average.

Madison Bumgarner delivered in more ways than one in Friday's opener, as he tossed six solid innings and also stroked a fourth-inning grand slam en route to a career-high five runs batted in to help the Giants to 6-5 win.

Bumgarner (2-0), who allowed four runs on nine hits while striking out seven, had two career home runs entering Friday's tilt, both in 2012. He became the second pitcher in franchise history to hit a grand slam since moving to San Francisco in 1958. Shawn Estes did it in 2000.

"That's quite a night, 5 ribbies," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. "He wasn't quite as sharp (as usual), and he found a way to win the game."

His counterpart Jorge De La Rosa (0-2) surrendered six runs on four hits, lasting just 4 1/3 innings for Colorado in the setback.

Josh Rutledge had three hits for the Rockies, Nolan Arenado and Brandon Barnes had two hits apiece and Carlos Gonzalez went deep for the fourth time this season, but Colorado fell to 2-14 in its last 16 in San Francisco.

Now Colorado will turn to Anderson, who is still looking for his first win as a member of the Rockies. Anderson fell to 0-2 on Sunday against Arizona, as the Diamondbacks reached him for five runs (3 earned) and 10 hits over six innings.

It may not get any easier for Anderson on Saturday, as he has lost both times he has faced the Giants and has pitched to a 7.00 ERA in doing so.

San Francisco was 10-9 versus the Rockies last season.
