Barnes, Rutledge lead Rockies over Dodgers

Apr 28, 2014 - 12:05 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandon Barnes went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Josh Rutledge had a three-run homer as the Colorado Rockies took the rubber match of this three-game set, 6-1, over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Arenado and Justin Morneau all had two hits for Colorado, with Arenado scoring twice to help the Rockies win their third straight series.

Jorge De La Rosa (2-3) spun seven one-run innings to win his second straight decision after starting the season with three consecutive losses. He was touched for just four hits while fanning three.

"Jorge really stepped up today," praised Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "He's pitching like he did a year ago. He was efficient."

Hyun-Jin Ryu (3-2) was tagged for six runs on nine hits over five-plus innings to absorb the loss. Los Angeles has lost five of its last seven games.

"(Ryu) wasn't as sharp today," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. "He wasn't as sharp with his fastball, which made him more vulnerable."

Adrian Gonzalez's RBI single to right in the home half of the first inning plated Dee Gordon and gave the Dodgers an early lead, but Colorado countered with two runs in the second to go in front.

Arenado led off with a single. Ryu retired the next two batters but De La Rosa reached on an infield single to short and both runners moved on Justin Turner's throwing error. Blackmon was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for Barnes, who plated a pair of runs with his single to center.

Blackmon doubled in the fifth and moved to third on Barnes' sacrifice bunt attempt. Barnes reached first on Ryu's error and tried to steal second, getting caught in a rundown and was eventually tagged out sliding back into first base. Blackmon used the opportunity to sprint home to make it 3-1.

With two on and no outs in the sixth inning, Rutledge took a 1-0 fastball out to left field for his first home run of the season to widen the gap and chase Ryu from the contest.

Adam Ottavino and Chris Martin both allowed baserunners but kept LA scoreless in their relief innings to secure the outcome.

Game Notes

Los Angeles went 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Colorado hit 3-for-11 with RISP and left six on ... Gordon was the lone Dodger with two hits.
