Marlins resume home set with Mets

May 6, 2014 - 2:58 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Marlins shoot for a third straight win on Tuesday when they continue a three-game series with the New York Mets at Marlins Park.

Miami continued to impress on Monday, as Casey McGehee slugged the game- winning single with one out in the bottom of the ninth, capping a four-run rally and sending the Marlins to a 4-3 win.

Christian Yelich began the final frame with a leadoff single against Scott Rice (0-1), then Gonzalez German entered but gave up a sacrifice bunt to Ed Lucas and intentionally walked Giancarlo Stanton. McGehee hit a ball that deflected off the mound and skittered into right field to plate Yelich with the winning run.

Steve Cishek (2-1) tossed a scoreless top of the ninth to snag the win.

Stanton and Jarrod Saltalamacchia each contributed an RBI during a three-run eighth for the Marlins, who have won six of their last seven overall.

"All our wins, especially this homestand, everybody feels like they've been a part of it," McGehee said. "It's always a good thing when you have 25 guys feeling like their contributing."

Nathan Eovaldi allowed five hits and three runs over seven full frames, but fanned a season-high 10 batters.

Curtis Granderson and Daniel Murphy hit solo homers and Bobby Abreu knocked in the other run for the Mets, who have lost four of their last five.

"The Marlins have been hot, especially in this park and late," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "They can be really tough."

Getting the call for the Marlins on Tuesday will be righty Henderson Alvarez, who is 1-2 with a 3.28 ERA. Alvarez did not get a decision on Thursday against Atlanta, as he allowed four runs and eight hits in six innings of his team's 5-4 win.

Alvarez also didn't factor in a decision against the Mets two starts ago, but is 2-1 in four starts against them with a 3.55 ERA.

New York, meanwhile, will turn to righty Bartolo Colon, who is coming off yet another poor showing. Colon was hammered in a loss in Colorado on Thursday, as he was hit for seven runs and 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings, dropping him to 2-4 on the year to go along with a 5.65 ERA.

"My two-seamer wasn't going where I wanted it to go," Colon said. "I didn't have any command from the first inning on. I had no control of where the ball was going."

Colon has faced the Marlins three times and is 2-1 against them with a 4.26 ERA. This, though, will be his first start against them since 2002.

Miami lost two of three to New York late last month at Citi Field.
