Twins, Tribe continue series in Cleveland
May 7, 2014 - 2:28 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Right-hander Danny Salazar aims to continue Cleveland's recently stellar pitching on home turf when the Indians host the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night in game three of a four-game series at Progressive Field.Cleveland has won seven of its last 10 games at home while the staff has compiled a 2.37 earned run average.
The offense, however, has managed only a .224 batting average of its own over the last five games.
A win for Salazar would give him victories in consecutive starts for the first time in his big-league career.
He was a 12-5 winner against the Chicago White Sox on Friday in his last start, when he allowed three earned runs and struck out six in five-plus innings.
Salazar got a no-decision against the Twins in a 7-2 Indians victory on April 4 after allowing two runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Minnesota's top hitter, Joe Mauer, has missed two straight games with back spasms and may not play again Wednesday.
The Twins will start righty Ricky Nolasco, who's won once in three decisions on the road in 2014 while posting a bloated 8.72 ERA.
In an April 6 start against the Indians in Cleveland, he was nicked for five runs on seven hits in four innings while getting a no-decision in a game the Twins won, 10-7.
Still, in his last start, Nolasco allowed nine hits and struck out six while going the distance in a 3-0 loss to Baltimore on Friday.
On Tuesday, Josh Tomlin fired 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball and the Indians defeated the Twins, 4-2.
Tomlin (1-0) struck out four and surrendered four hits and just one walk for Cleveland.
Nick Swisher smacked an RBI single among his two hits and scored a run.
Chris Colabello cracked a solo homer for the Twins.
Samuel Deduno (0-2) allowed four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and two walks over five frames.
Minnesota took two of three from the Tribe in early April.
