Keuchel, HRs help Astros snap Tigers' 8-game win streak

May 8, 2014 - 10:33 PM Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Dallas Keuchel spun 7 2/3 strong frames and the Houston Astros hit three home runs to claim a 6-2 victory over the Tigers and snap Detroit's eight-game win streak in the finale of this four-game set.

Keuchel (3-2) kept the Tigers off balance for much of his outing, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out seven without issuing a walk.

"It seemed like (the Tigers) were giving me a bunch of first-pitch strikes and I was trying to take advantage of that," Keuchel said. "It just kind of set up the slider and judging by some of those swings it was pretty good today."

George Springer and Carlos Corporan each clubbed a solo homer while Matt Dominguez added a two-run blast for the Astros, who had lost five straight and seven of their last eight games.

Jose Altuve tallied a go-ahead, two-run double in the triumph.

Detroit starter Drew Smyly (2-2) surrendered three runs on five hits and three walks over 5 1/3 frames to absorb the loss. Victor Martinez registered three hits, including a solo homer, in the setback.

"(Keuchel) pitched a great game," Detroit third baseman Nick Castellanos said of the Houston southpaw. "He gave really nobody the same look more than twice. He did a great job today."

Castellanos stroked a two-out, RBI double in the second and Martinez scorched his seventh homer of the season in the fourth to give Detroit a 2-0 lead, but the Astros answered with three runs in the fifth to take control.

Springer started the rally with his first big league home run, a one-out drive into the seats in right-center field that brought Houston within 2-1.

Corporan kept the frame alive with a two-out walk and L.J. Hoes singled before Altuve laced a double down the left-field line to clear the bases and give the Astros a 3-2 lead.

Corporan clubbed a one-out blast in the seventh to make it 4-2 Houston and Dominguez followed a Springer walk in the ninth with a deep drive to left to account for the final margin.
