Darvish, Rangers welcome Red Sox to town

May 9, 2014 - 2:39 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Texas righty Yu Darvish eyes a second straight win on Friday when the Rangers welcome the Boston Red Sox to Globe Life Park for the start of a three-game series.

Darvish received a rare show of support on Sunday in Anaheim, as the Rangers erupted for 14 runs to back the Japanese hurler, who limited the Angels to three runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 frames and improved to 2-1 on the year to go along with a 2.87 ERA.

Texas has only managed to produce 3.35 runs-per-nine innings with him on the hill this season.

"When you have your ace out there, you want to support him and get him some runs so he can have a breather," Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre said. "Today we did that, and hopefully we can do it more often because he always gives us a good chance to win ballgames."

Darvish is 0-1 with a 5.93 ERA in two career starts against the Red Sox.

Texas snapped a three-game losing streak on Thursday, as Prince Fielder homered and Matt Harrison tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings in a 5-0 win over the Colorado Rockies.

It was only the third win in the last 11 games for Texas, which had been outscored 29-5 in the first three games with the Rockies.

"It's a huge team win for us. I tried to keep us in the game from the get-go," said Harrison. "I was able to make some pitches to get out of a couple jams early in the game."

Boston, meanwhile, has won four of five after sweeping a two-game set with the Cincinnati Reds. Will Middlebrooks capped a two-run eighth inning rally with a go-ahead RBI single on Thursday, lifting the Red Sox to a 4-3 win.

"For his own confidence ... it was good to see (Middlebrooks) come through," Red Sox manager John Farrell said.

Koji Uehara struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning to pick up his eighth save and Craig Breslow (2-0) got the win for a scoreless eighth inning.

Getting the call for the Red Sox on Friday will be righty Clay Buchholz, who has won his last two starts. Buchholz was terrific against the Oakland Athletics last Friday, as he allowed a run and three hits in 6 1/3 frames to run his record to 2-2, while lowering his ERA to a still lofty 5.63.

"I felt good," Buchholz said after the start. "It's been a process between last start to this start, and as far as arm strength and everything, it seems to be coming along pretty well. That was the last phase I was getting through -- getting my arm strength fully back and trusting the pitches that I throw."

Buchholz is 1-3 in five starts versus the Rangers with a 3.30 ERA.

Boston took two of three from the Rangers earlier in the year.
