Feldman faces former team in Baltimore
May 9, 2014 - 2:49 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Righty Scott Feldman finished the 2013 season with the Baltimore Orioles, but he'll try to continue early-season 2014 success against them on Friday night when his new team -- the Houston Astros -- visits the Orioles to open a three-game weekend series at Camden Yards.Feldman began 2013 with the Chicago Cubs but was dealt to Baltimore during the season and was 5-6 in 15 starts with the Orioles while compiling a 4.27 earned run average. He became a free agent after the season and signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Astros.
The Friday start will be his fifth in a new uniform and his first since exiting the 15-day disabled list following a bout with shoulder pain. He was 2-0 with a microscopic 2.44 ERA in the initial three outings before being tagged for five runs on nine hits in a 5-1 loss to Kansas City on April 17.
He's not made a start since.
In 16 career appearances at Camden Yards, Feldman is 7-4 with a 4.70 ERA.
Baltimore starts southpaw Wei-Yin Chen, who'll try to erase the sting of a 6-1 loss to Minnesota in his last start on Saturday, when he was nicked for three runs in five innings.
He's failed to make it to six innings in four of six starts in 2014.
"I tried to make a good pitch to get hitters out and I couldn't do it like in my previous outing," Chen said. "So I was kind of having trouble, that's what happens out there."
Chen has faced the Astros once and went 7 1/3 innings while allowing three runs in a game Baltimore won, 4-3, last July.
On Thursday in Detroit, Dallas Keuchel spun 7 2/3 strong frames and the Astros hit three home runs to claim a 6-2 victory over the Tigers and snap Detroit's eight-game win streak in the finale of a four-game set.
Keuchel (3-2) kept the Tigers off balance for much of his outing, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out seven without issuing a walk. George Springer and Carlos Corporan each clubbed a solo homer while Matt Dominguez added a two-run blast for the Astros, who had lost five straight and seven of their last eight games.
Jose Altuve tallied a go-ahead, two-run double in the triumph.
In St. Petersburg, Steve Pearce hit a two-run homer to help the Orioles sweep a three-game series over the Tampa Bay Rays with a 3-1 win.
Pearce and Adam Jones each had two hits and Jonathan Schoop drove in a run for the Orioles, who have won three straight and six of their last eight.
Ubaldo Jimenez (2-4) earned the win after surrendering just one run on seven hits with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
