Dickerson, Rockies pound Reds
May 11, 2014 - 5:47 AM Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Dickerson smacked a pair of home runs among his quartet of hits, four RBI and three runs scored and the Colorado Rockies beat the Cincinnati Reds, 11-2, in the middle test of a three-game set.Charlie Blackmon's leadoff homer highlighted his three-hit night. He also had an RBI double to go with his three runs scored for Colorado, which pounded out 16 hits to snap a brief two-game skid on the heels of a 6-1 stretch.
Justin Morneau cracked a two-run blast and Troy Tulowitzki added a solo shot in the triumph. Jordan Lyles (5-0) struck out eight and surrendered two runs on four hits and four walks over six frames to notch the win.
"We set the tone by getting to their starting pitcher early," Lyles said.
Alfredo Simon (4-2) was roughed up for five runs on eight hits over just three frames for the Reds.
"It was a struggle for him to get the ball down," Reds manager Bryan Price said of Simon.
Blackmon and Dickerson sent back-to-back solo shots into right to kick off the scoring in the first before the Reds got a run back in the second on Joey Votto's opposite-field leadoff blast into the seats in left to make it 2-1.
The Rockies extended their advantage after plating a trio of runs in the third, a pair in the fourth and three more in the sixth.
Dickerson doubled to begin the third and Tulowitzki followed with a bunt single. Dickerson scored when Carlos Gonzalez grounded into a double play. After having his 28-game hitting streak snapped Friday night, Nolan Arenado began a new one with a double and Morneau followed with a blast into right- center for a 5-1 Rockies cushion.
RBI doubles by Blackmon and Dickerson in the fourth made it 7-1. Dickerson cracked a two-run shot to right in the sixth and Tulowitzki followed with a solo shot for a 10-1 spread.
Ryan Ludwick's RBI single in the sixth cut the deficit to 10-2 and DJ LeMahieu's RBI groundout in the ninth capped the scoring.
Game Notes
Tulowitzki has 11 homers, which is tied for the NL lead ... The Rockies were 4-for-13 with runners in scoring position, while Cincinnati finished 1-for-10 ... Votto's blast was his first off a right-hander this year.
