Francisco homers as Blue Jays clip Indians

May 14, 2014 - 5:57 AM Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Juan Francisco homered and had two RBI to help the Toronto Blue Jays edge the Cleveland Indians, 5-4, in the opener of a three-game set from Rogers Centre.

Adam Lind also knocked in two and Melky Cabrera added the other RBI for Toronto, which has won two straight.

Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey (4-3) scattered four hits over six-plus innings, allowing four runs -- two earned -- with six strikeouts. Casey Janssen pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the season.

"The good news is I feel like I'm pounding the zone and pitching to contact," said Dickey. "I had a great knuckleball, but I am not making it easy on myself or my team in the later innings."

Nick Swisher drove in a pair for Cleveland, which saw starter Justin Masterson (2-2) take the loss after surrendering five runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings.

"First time through the order went really well," said Indians manager Terry Francona of Masterson. "He got a couple balls up that they stayed on pretty well. We just couldn't get one big hit."

Mike Aviles slapped a high knuckleball into center field with two outs in the third, then Michael Bourn walked before Swisher opened the scoring with an RBI single.

Toronto got the run back in the home half of the fourth when Jose Reyes tripled to leadoff the inning. Melky Cabrera followed with a sacrifice fly top center.

Francisco homered to deep right-center to give the hosts a 2-1 advantage in the fifth.

The Blue Jays gained separation in the sixth with a three-run frame. Cabrera got things started with a walk, then Jose Bautista reached on an infield single.

Lind followed with a double to left that plated Cabrera and Bautista and Francisco knocked in another run with a double two batters later.

Asdrubal Cabrera singled and David Murphy reached on an error to lead off the seventh before Yan Gomes loaded the bases with a walk.

Lonnie Chisenhall was hit by a pitch that scored Asdrubal Cabrera which ended Dickey's night.

Aaron Loup entered and got Aviles to line out to right, but Bourn singled and Swisher added a sacrifice fly to help cut the deficit to 5-4.

Carlos Santana opened the eighth with a single and moved over to second on a passed ball before Asdrubal Cabrera and Murphy each struck out. Yan Gomes singled sharply to left and Melky Cabrera fired home to nab Santana at the plate to keep the lead intact.

Janssen entered in the ninth and got the first two outs before Bourn reached on a single to left. Swisher then flied out to left on the second pitch of his at-bat to end it.

Game Notes

Cleveland was 3-for-8 with runners in scoring position ... Toronto was 2-for-8 with RISP ... Indians' Corey Kluber will oppose Dustin McGowan in the middle game on Wednesday.
