Bumgarner, Giants wrap set with Braves

May 14, 2014 - 2:48 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Madison Bumgarner will try to pitch the San Francisco Giants back into the win column Wednesday in the finale of a three-game series versus the Atlanta Braves at AT&T Park.

The Giants are coming off Tuesday's 5-0 loss and had won 14 of the previous 18 games. Bumgarner is tasked with getting his club back on track and has won his last two starts, including a 3-1 win at Los Angeles on Friday. He struck out eight batters and allowed only one run in eight innings of work.

Bumgarner, a left-hander, has only permitted one earned run in his last two starts and is 4-3 with a 2.83 earned run average in eight outings. He defeated the Braves at Turner Field on May 4, when he was reached for an unearned run over six innings of a 4-1 victory.

In seven career starts against the Braves, Bumgarner has a 3-3 record to go along with a 2.51 ERA.

Ryan Vogelsong struggled with the Braves on Tuesday and allowed four runs in six innings of work. He struck out eight batters, allowed seven hits and walked only one to fall to 1-2 on the season.

Hunter Pence had two doubles for the Giants, who recorded a 4-2 victory in Monday's series opener.

The Giants will host the Miami Marlins for four games next.

Atlanta has won five of its last seven games since losing seven straight and used a three-run sixth inning to grab a comfortable lead last night.

Freddie Freeman, B.J. Upton and Andrelton Simmons all had RBI singles in the sixth inning to help Mike Minor earn his first win of the season. Minor fanned six and walked two in 6 2/3 scoreless innings, scattering three hits.

Minor retired 16 in a row at one point for the win.

"It was a team win," Braves outfielder Jason Heyward said. "Pitching was solid. But here, you're always on edge because you feel like they can put together one good inning and get back in the game."

Julio Teheran tries to pitch the Braves to a series win Wednesday when he takes the mound and did not receive a decision in Friday's 3-2 win over the Chicago Cubs. He allowed a home run in eight innings, struck out nine and issued a pair of walks.

Teheran has allowed four home runs over his last two starts and is 0-1 in his past four trips to the mound. The Braves are 6-2 in Teheran's eight starts and the right-hander has a 2-2 mark with a 1.71 ERA in that time.

He gave up three home runs in seven innings of a 3-1 loss to the Giants on May 3 and is 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA in three career starts against them.

Atlanta will visit St. Louis for three games after its visit to the bay area.

San Francisco won all three games in Atlanta from May 2-4 and is 8-3 in the past 11 encounters between the two clubs.
