Dominguez belts two homers to power Astros past ChiSox

May 18, 2014 - 11:07 PM Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Dominguez crushed a pair of two-run homers to power the Houston Astros to an 8-2 win over the Chicago White Sox in the rubber match of a three-game set at Minute Maid Park on Sunday.

Jonathan Villar chipped in with two RBI and Chris Carter added a solo shot for Houston, winners in five of its last seven contests.

Brad Peacock (1-4) spun a solid 6 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs on five hits and four walks to earn the win.

"I felt great today and Corporan caught a great game. I just hit my spots and focused on his glove," said Peacock.

Chicago starter John Danks (3-4) surrendered eight runs -- seven earned -- on 10 hits and three walks while fanning seven.

"I did a terrible job of keeping the ball in the ballpark. I tried to change my game plan a little bit and that backfired on me," said Danks.

Adrian Nieto finished 3-for-3 and drove in both runs for the White Sox, who have lost six of their last eight games.

Chicago also lost star first baseman Jose Abreu, placing the majors' home run leader on the 15-day disabled list before Sunday's game with tendinitis in his left ankle.

Carter crushed his sixth home run of the year to ignite a four-run second inning. Jesus Guzman drew a four-pitch walk and L.J. Hoes' ground-rule double put runners in scoring position with no outs.

Villar drove in two with a liner to left and took second when Alejandro De Aza overran the ball. Villar stole third and cruised home when White Sox catcher Nieto's throw sailed into left field to make it 4-0.

After walking the first batter of the third and allowing a Nieto RBI single up the middle, Peacock escaped a bases-loaded, no-out jam. Peacock snagged Gordon Beckham's comebacker to start a 1-2-3 double play and Conor Gillaspie flied out to center end the threat.

Houston made it 6-1 in the bottom of the inning after Dominguez connected for his first two-run homer. Dexter Fowler led off with a line drive double.

Dominguez smacked his second two-run shot of the game in the fifth after a walk to Fowler, who drew a free pass for the eighth straight game.

A pair of two-out walks kept the seventh inning alive for the White Sox and Nieto's double to center scored Alexei Ramirez, cutting the deficit to 8-2. Josh Fields took over for Peacock and fanned Adam Eaton for the final out of the inning.

Game Notes

Dominguez became the first Astro with a multi-homer game this season ... Eaton took Abreu's roster spot. He was activated off the 15-day disabled list after recovering from a straight right hamstring that had sidelined him since early May ... Houston's Jose Altuve extended his hitting streak to 10 games, going 1-for-5 with a single ... Fowler has reached base safely in 16 straight games.
