Astros try to keep rolling at Angel Stadium
May 20, 2014 - 2:40 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Astros try to extend their season-best winning streak to four games on Tuesday when they continue a three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Angel Stadium.Dallas Keuchel turned in another solid outing for Houston in Monday's opener, and the Astros scored three runs in the first, one in the second and another in the third in a 5-2 triumph.
"(Keuchel) was outstanding tonight," said Astros manager Bo Porter. "He continues to attack the strike zone. I told him one more batter (after Trout) and he understood, then Pujols got that hit."
Following his first career shutout, Keuchel (5-2) nearly completed his second clean sheet in as many outings on Monday. He allowed two runs on five hits and struck out eight over 8 2/3 innings, but he ran into trouble with two outs in the ninth before being removed after a career-high 128 pitches.
"Anyone would have wanted to finish this one," said Keuchel. "I'm just trying to compete. I felt better this time than my shutout."
Angels starter Garrett Richards (4-1) surrendered five runs on 10 hits and two walks over seven innings of work. Richards struck out a season-low one batter.
"Richards had a tough time early on, then he settled in, but the damage was already done," said Angels manager Mike Scioscia.
Now trying to win for the sixth time in seven tries on Tuesday, the Astros will turn to righty Scott Feldman, who is 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA, but is winless in his last four trips to the hill.
Feldman did not get a decision on Wednesday against Texas, as he allowed four runs and 10 hits in five innings of a 5-4 win.
"It's kind of frustrating a little bit, but I kept the team in the game as well as I could," Feldman said. "We ended up with the win, so that's the main thing."
He has faced the Angels 22 times (13 starts) and is 5-6 against them with a 4.97 ERA.
The Angels, meanwhile, will counter with 22-year-old lefty Tyler Skaggs, who is 3-1 with a 4.53 ERA. Skaggs did not get a decision on Thursday against Tampa Bay, but was not sharp, as he surrendered five runs and eight hits in six innings of a 6-5 win.
Skaggs beat the Astros in his first start of the season, holding them to just an unearned run in eight innings back on April 5.
The Angels took three of four from the Astros earlier in the season.
