Rox turn to streaking De La Rosa vs. Giants
May 22, 2014 - 1:55 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Jorge De La Rosa eyes his sixth straight win on Thursday when the Colorado Rockies wrap up a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field.De La Rosa had opened the year by losing his first three decisions, but has responded with five straight wins and has pitched to a 1.58 ERA in that span. He may have had his best effort of the season on Friday against San Diego, as he allowed only a seventh-inning single over seven scoreless innings to lower his overall ERA to 4.14.
"I never think about it," De La Rosa said of the no-hitter. "I just try to go as long as I can in the game and I think I did a pretty good job at that."
De La Rosa is now 3-0 with a 2.82 ERA in four starts at Coors Field this season and 13-1 with a 2.77 ERA since the start of the 2012 season there.
The 33-year-old left-hander's run started with a win over the Giants back on April 21 and is 9-5 lifetime against them with a 4.15 ERA in 21 games (18 starts).
San Francisco, meanwhile, will counter with an equally impressive hurler of its own in veteran righty Tim Hudson, who is 4-2 with a 2.09 ERA.
Hudson had to be scratched from his previous turn because of a strained hip, but he threw his entire arsenal in a bullpen session on Tuesday and felt no lingering discomfort.
Hudson didn't get a decision against Colorado earlier in the year, but is 5-2 in 12 starts against them with a 4.40 ERA.
San Francisco stretched its lead atop the NL West on Wednesday, as Brandon Crawford, Hunter Pence and Pablo Sandoval each belted solo home runs in the Giants' 5-1 win.
The Giants bounced back from a loss in the opener of this set on Tuesday and now lead the division by three games over the Rockies.
San Francisco went to its bullpen early after Matt Cain exited with a right hamstring strain following his three hitless innings of work. Yusmeiro Petit (3-1) held Colorado to two hits over the next three frames, and four other relievers kept the Rockies' bats relatively quiet.
"We couldn't get things going," Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado said. "We didn't hit balls hard."
Jhoulys Chacin (0-3) gave up three runs on four hits and two walks over 5 2/3 innings to remain winless for Colorado, which had won three of four coming in.
The Rockies are 10-5 in the last 15 meetings with the Giants at Coors Field and have split the eight matchups this season.
