Rockies aim for series victory over Phillies

May 28, 2014 - 3:01 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rockies aim for a series win over the Philadelphia Phillies when they play the rubber match of this three-game set Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park.

The Rockies haven't won a series since taking two of three versus the San Diego Padres from May 16-18 and are coming off Tuesday's 6-2 win. Wilin Rosario broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run homer in the seventh inning and Colorado plated two more runs in the eighth.

Drew Stubbs had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for the Rockies, who bounced back from Monday's 9-0 loss and are 2-3 on a nine-game road trip.

Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa picked up his sixth win of the season (6-3) and limited the Phillies to a run on Darin Ruf's homer and six hits. The lefty also worked around a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the third inning.

"De La Rosa was huge," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said of his starter. "In the third inning, getting out of that bases-loaded, no-out jam felt like the game kind of turned right there. It was critical."

Colorado left fielder Carlos Gonzalez left the game prior to the top of the sixth inning because of a right calf contusion. He has been bothered by a finger issue as well and his status for Wednesday is unknown.

The Rockies will visit Cleveland next for three games.

Jordan Lyles will take the mound in tonight's series finale in south Philly and has a 5-1 mark to go along with a 3.45 earned run average in 10 starts. Lyles is 0-1 in his last two starts after opening the season 5-0, and did not factor in the outcome of Friday's 3-2 loss at Atlanta.

Lyles pitched well against the Braves, allowing two runs in six innings with six K's, but the offense couldn't produce. The right-hander is 2-0 in six road starts this season and 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in three career starts against the Phillies.

Philadelphia couldn't keep the bats going from its big win on Monday and left- hander Cole Hamels was dealt the loss for surrendering four runs on just three hits and two walks in seven innings.

Rosario's home run made the difference and the Phillies couldn't recover.

"You just have to get that pitch (to Rosario) down," Hamels said. "If the pitch is down, it's a definite different result, so it was just a poorly- executed pitch."

Ben Revere hit the first home run in his career and Carlos Ruiz recorded a team-high two hits, as the Phillies fell to 2-3 in a stretch of 11 straight games at home. The Phils have lost five of seven overall and have a five-game set versus the New York Mets coming up.

Phillies sluggers Ryan Howard and Domonic Brown were held out of the lineup Tuesday and will most likely be back with Lyles on the mound for Colorado. Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon needs one more save for 300 in his career. He will eventually tie Hall of Famer Bruce Sutter and Jason Isringhausen for 24th on the all-time list.

Shortstop Jimmy Rollins is 15 hits shy of passing Mike Schmidt (2,234) for the most on the club's all-time list. Rollins was 0-for-4 with a run Monday and went hitless in four at-bats Tuesday.

Roberto Hernandez gets the nod for the Phillies Wednesday and he's 2-2 with a 3.83 ERA in 11 appearances, eight of which have been starts.

Hernandez lost his last time out in Friday's 2-0 decision to the Los Angeles Dodgers and allowed both runs in 6 1/3 innings. The righty has made two career starts against the Rockies and is 0-1 with a lofty 13.50 ERA. He has allowed 13 runs and 18 hits in 8 2/3 innings of work.

Philadelphia lost two of three at Colorado back in April and are 9-3 in the last 12 meetings between the clubs at Citizens Bank Park.
