Darvish shuts out Marlins, snaps Texas' skid

Jun 12, 2014 - 5:55 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Yu Darvish snapped the Texas Rangers out of their four-game skid as the ace tossed his first career shutout in a 6-0 victory over the Miami Marlins.

Darvish (7-2) scattered six hits -- all singles -- and struck out 10 while walking three to earn his fourth consecutive win.

"He certainly gave us what we needed," Rangers manager Ron Washington said of his starter.

Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI, while Elvis Andrus recorded three of Texas' 11 hits.

The Marlins came in with 13 straight victories in interleague play, including an 8-5 win in the opener of this two-game set at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

Another win would have set an MLB record, but the Rangers got to Jacob Turner early and cruised behind Darvish.

Turner (2-4) was touched for five runs on six hits and was struck by a comebacker just above his right hip in the fourth frame. He finished the inning but did not come back out for the fifth.

A walk and two singles loaded the bases for Choo in the third, and his sharply hit ball to right field got past Giancarlo Stanton and rolled to the wall, clearing Chris Gimenez, Rougned Odor and Elvis Andrus from the bases for a 3-0 Texas lead.

"I just left a pitch up in the zone, and (Choo) took advantage," Turner said.

Choo later scored on a wild pitch following the double, then knocked in another run in the fifth with an RBI single to right.

Texas tacked on a run the inning before when Gimenez's chopper between third and short got through both Casey McGehee and Adeiny Hechavarria. Leonys Martin never stopped running on the play and scored easily from second.

Darvish struck out the side in the eighth and stayed on for the ninth having tossed 107 pitches. Stanton led off the inning with a single and was quickly erased when McGehee bounced into a 6-4-3 double play.

Fittingly, Darvish fanned Garrett Jones to post the first complete game of his career.
