Blue Jays continue set against Orioles

Jun 14, 2014 - 1:52 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Toronto Blue Jays will attempt to gain control of their four-game series with the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon at Camden Yards.

The first-place Blue Jays snapped a three-game losing streak on Friday night with a 4-0 victory and were anchored by a strong pitching performance from Drew Hutchinson (5-4), who allowed six hits and zero walks in seven shutout innings.

Dustin McGowen recorded the final five outs for his first-career save.

Toronto got on the board in the second inning on a two-run home run off the bat of Juan Francisco, his 11th of the season. The visitors tacked on two more runs in the eighth when Anthony Gose scored on a wild pitch and Jose Bautista plated his 46th RBI with a base hit.

"I felt like it was the toughest game to win all year, if you want to know the truth," Toronto manager John Gibbons said. "We didn't get many hits. We got the big home run, and of course we scratched out a couple late."

Ubaldo Jimenez (2-8) pitched well despite the loss, yielding just three hits and two runs in six innings, although he did put himself in plenty of trouble with five walks.

The Orioles failed to score despite piecing together nine hits. Manny Machado was 3-for-4, while Steve Pearce, Adam Jones and J.J. Hardy all collected a pair of hits.

R.A. Dickey will get the call on Saturday afternoon for the Blue Jays, attempting to win his third straight decision.

Dickey, who's 6-4 with a 4.20 ERA, settled for a no-decision in his latest outing after allowing two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings in a June 9 victory over Minnesota.

The former Cy Young Award winner has not fared well outside of Toronto this season, going just 1-3 in five road starts with a 5.74 ERA while walking 22 batters in 26 2/3 innings.

The Orioles will counter with Bud Norris, who's been solid on the campaign at 5-5 with a 3.94 ERA.

Norris is fresh off his best outing of the season, pitching eight shutout innings while striking out six in a June 9 win over the Red Sox.

"Bud was really good," Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said. "I should have probably given him a chance to finish that game."

Norris has faced the Blue Jays twice already this season, going 1-0 while allowing just three earned runs over 13 innings.

Baltimore had beaten Toronto in three straight meetings prior to Friday night.
