Gordon leads Dodgers past Rockies

Jun 17, 2014 - 6:39 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dee Gordon reached base in all five of his plate appearances with a walk, three singles and a triple in leading the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Colorado Rockies, 6-1, in Monday's opener of a three-game series between the NL West rivals.

Gordon scored twice, Matt Kemp drove in a pair and Hyun-Jin Ryu (8-3) limited a potent Rockies lineup to one run on three hits over six frames to earn the win, LA's third in its last four games.

Wilin Rosario accounted for Colorado's only run with a homer, while Tyler Matzek (1-1), who tossed seven innings of two-run ball in his MLB debut last week, yielded three runs on 10 hits over five frames to suffer his first loss.

"The slider wasn't there as much and I was falling behind hitters early," Matzek said.

Gordon's speed and Charlie Blackmon's botched play in left field led to the game's first run. Gordon laced a line drive past a diving Charlie Culberson and into the corner, where Blackmon misplayed it twice. Gordon sped all the way around and scored on the play and was credited with a triple.

"I thought it was an inside-the-park homer to be honest because I didn't think he touched it," Gordon said.

Kemp singled home Hanley Ramirez later in the frame, and after Rosario put the Rockies on the board by sending an 0-2 pitch into the left-field bleachers in the fourth, the Dodgers tacked on some insurance runs.

A.J. Ellis' two-out single to center scored Yasiel Puig in the fifth, while Ramirez and Kemp each drove in a run in the sixth. Ramirez knocked in Gordon with a base hit to right, then scored when Kemp doubled off the wall in center.

Puig capped his three-hit night with an RBI single in the eighth.

The Rockies rallied three times in the seventh inning or later to sweep the Giants over the weekend, but they had no answer for the Dodgers' bullpen.
