Brewers go for another win against D'backs
Jun 17, 2014 - 3:04 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - After cruising to a 9-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, the Milwaukee Brewers look to make it two in a row on Tuesday night when the teams resume their four-game set at Chase Field.Brewers starter Kyle Lohse is also trying to put together two strong outings in a row, something the veteran has struggled to do so far this season. After allowing eight runs in his previous start, Lohse was on point against the New York Mets on Thursday, tossing eight strong innings while yielding an unearned run on only four hits and no walks.
"I did everything I came in wanting to do," Lohse said of his most recent outing.
Despite the occasional bump in the road, the right-hander has pitched into the seventh inning in 10 of 14 starts, and his 1.04 WHIP leads Milwaukee's rotation.
Meanwhile, Arizona's Wade Miley is still in search of his first win since May 10, a span of seven starts. He gave up four earned runs on seven hits over five innings of work at Houston on Thursday. The southpaw struck out eight and walked two.
Two of those seven hits went into the stands, a trend that has plagued Miley throughout the season as he has given up 16 homers.
"I couldn't hit a spot," Miley said of his command issues against the Astros. "Throw one way, it would go somewhere else. I just didn't locate at all."
Monday's game was tied 3-3 through seven innings, but Milwaukee rallied against the D'backs bullpen by scoring three runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth. Four different Brewers had multi-hit, multi-RBI games.
Milwaukee could get another boost on Tuesday with Carlos Gomez's possible return to the lineup after sitting out Monday with a sore hamstring. Gomez entered the week having reached safely in 30 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the majors. It's also the longest streak for the Brewers since Prince Fielder reached base in 33 straight games during the 2007 season.
"I'm feeling good," Gomez said. "Last couple of days, I've been feeling much better at the plate, but the last couple of weeks, we have a really tough schedule. We (travel) really late and your body feels really tired, but it's normal.
"I'm fine to play every day. I'm not the one that's going to tell the manager, 'I need a day off.' If he gives it to me, I'm going to take it, but I'm not going to ask."
Arizona won two of three in Milwaukee when these teams faced each other from May 5-7.
