Hill leads Diamondbacks past Giants

Jun 21, 2014 - 6:26 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Hill drove in two runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the San Francisco Giants, 4-1, in the opener of a three- game set.

Paul Goldschmidt finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Chris Owings tripled for the Diamondbacks, who have won two of their last three games.

Starter Josh Collmenter (5-4) earned the win after conceding just one run on four hits and four walks with four strikeouts across five innings.

Pablo Sandoval had an RBI triple and Buster Posey went 2-for-3 with a run scored as the Giants continued their losing ways in a season-high sixth straight game.

Tim Lincecum (5-5) gave up four runs and seven hits across six frames in defeat.

"It wasn't a bad outing," commented Giants manager Bruce Bochy on Lincecum. "A play here or there and it's a different ball game.

The Giants opened the scoring in the first. Posey reached on a two-out single before Sandoval's line drive bounced past a diving Ender Inciarte in left- center field for a triple, bringing home Posey for a 1-0 advantage.

In the fourth, Goldschmidt took a one-out walk and came home two batters later on Hill's single up the middle. Martin Prado's double off the wall in center plated Hill and gave Arizona a 2-1 lead.

Arizona added a run in both the fifth and sixth. Inciarte led off with a single to center and came home after Owings tripled with two outs. Owings hustled around third in hopes of an inside-the-park home run, but was thrown out by Gregor Blanco at home. The play was followed with an umpire review that confirmed the call.

"I guess I don't understand the rules. It looked like he was clearly blocking the plate." said Arizona manager Kirk Gibson about the play.

Goldschmidt doubled off the base of the wall in center to lead off the sixth, moved to third on Miguel Montero's ground out and came home on Hill's sacrifice fly to left.

Addison Reed struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 17th save of the season.
