Mets rout Marlins 11-5

Jun 23, 2014 - 2:08 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Daniel Murphy hit a three-run homer and the New York Mets cruised to an 11-5 victory over the Miami Marlins in the finale of a four-game series.

Anthony Recker and Eric Young Jr. each knocked in two runs for the Mets, who pounded out 17 hits. Jonathon Niese (4-4) allowed three runs on six hits over six innings to pick up his first win since May 22.

"We hit them hard and hit them early. It's a lot more comfortable going out there," Niese said.

Justin Bour drove in two runs for the Marlins, who went 3-7 during their 10- game homestand. Anthony DeSclafani (1-2) gave up seven runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings.

"I fell behind hitters and the fastballs were flying up in the zone," DeSclafani said.

The Mets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Lucas Duda singled, Kirk Nieuwenhuis doubled and Ruben Tejada walked to load the bases with no outs. Recker hit a sacrifice fly to center and Niese followed with a nicely executed squeeze bunt.

New York tacked on two more runs in the third. Curtis Granderson and Murphy hit back-to-back singles to put men on first and third. David Wright's sacrifice fly and Nieuwenhuis' RBI double made it a 4-0 game.

Niese and Granderson crossed the plate on Murphy's home run in the fourth. Jacob Turner took over for DeSclafani after the homer.

The Marlins finally solved Niese in the sixth. Jeff Mathis led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Reed Johnson's double to left. Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna followed with RBI singles. Jeff Baker walked to load the bases, but Derek Dietrich struck out swinging to keep it a 7-3 contest.

New York responded with four runs in the seventh. With runners on the corners and one out, Tejada hit an RBI single to left. Recker hit a run-scoring double off the wall in left prior to Young's two-run single up the middle.

Bour's two-run double off Gonzalez Germen in the ninth accounted for the final margin.
