Bumgarner, Giants down D-backs

Jun 23, 2014 - 12:31 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandon Crawford scored twice and Madison Bumgarner tossed a solid eight-plus innings as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-1, in the rubber match of a three-game set.

Bumgarner (9-4) earned the win after giving up one unearned run on just two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts for the Giants, who salvaged the final two games of the series after losing six straight.

"You could tell he was on. He had great stuff," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said about Bumgarner. "Good pitchers when they're on, they're fun to watch."

Crawford had two hits and an RBI and Joe Panik went 2-for-4 with an RBI in his major-league debut.

Martin Prado drove in Arizona's lone run in the ninth while Cody Ross and Ender Inciarte each had a hit for the Diamondbacks' offense, which mustered just three hits.

Mike Bolsinger (1-3) was tagged with the loss, giving up a run on five hits across 7 2/3 frames for Arizona, which has dropped three of its last four.

"All I could do was really keep the team in the game," said Bolsinger. "We just caught Bumgarner on one of his good days."

The Giants opened the scoring in the fifth. Crawford worked a one-out walk before Tyler Colvin brought him home with a line-drive double to center. Colvin was thrown out at third on the play.

San Francisco tacked on three more runs in the ninth. Hunter Pence got aboard with a leadoff single off Evan Marshall and raced home on Buster Posey's two- bagger to left. Joe Thatcher took the mound and got Pablo Sandoval to pop up, but Crawford's single up the middle plated Posey.

Two batters later, Panik plated Crawford with an RBI double to center.

Bumgarner allowed just one hit before Jordan Pacheco reached on a fielding error and Inciarte singled to chase the Giants starter in the ninth. Prado greeted Sergio Romo with an RBI single to center.

Romo got Paul Goldschmidt to ground into a double play and struck out Aaron Hill for his 22nd save of the season.
