Garza attempts to end skid versus Rockies
Jun 28, 2014 - 2:12 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Milwaukee right-hander Matt Garza attempts to end a three-start winless skid Saturday when the Brewers continue their four- game set against the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park.Garza let up five hits and three runs over seven frames in a 3-0 home loss to the Nationals Monday. He has gone 1-3 with a 4.81 ERA in four career starts against the Rockies, but has not faced Colorado since 2011.
Jhoulys Chacin tries to end a personal two-game skid and post only his second win in eight decisions this season when he take the mound for the Rockies. The righty has lasted six frames in each of his last two starts, losses to the Dodgers and Cardinals. He doesn't have a decision in four starts versus Milwaukee.
Last night, Ryan Braun drove in the game-winning run with a walk-off single, leading the Brewers to a 3-2 victory.
Matt Belisle (2-3) took the mound for Colorado in the ninth and was greeted with a single from Mark Reynolds. Jean Segura's sacrifice bunt moved Reynolds to second and pinch-hitter Scooter Gennett was intentionally walked. A passed ball allowed both runners to move up a base. Rickie Weeks struck out before Braun's single up the middle won the game.
"It was a tough situation for Matty," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "The guys fought to the last out. That's what we have been doing every night, but we are just coming up on the short end."
Braun drove in two runs and Khris Davis doubled twice for the Brewers, who won their third straight game and seventh in nine overall. They're the first team to reach 50 wins this season.
"When you're in front you have a lot of good people trying to catch you," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "The guys don't worry about where we are and keep staying after it, being aggressive. I think this team will continue to play well."
Francisco Rodriguez (3-2) earned the win despite giving up the game-tying run in the ninth. Starter Kyle Lohse surrendered just one run on seven hits with four strikeouts across seven strong innings.
Josh Rutledge homered among his three hits and scored two runs for Colorado, which has dropped 10 of its last 11 games. Starter Tyler Matzek gave up one run on five hits in six innings of work.
The Brewers are 5-0 this year against the Rockies.
