Oakland completes three-game sweep of Miami
Jun 29, 2014 - 10:09 PM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tommy Milone tossed seven solid innings as the Oakland Athletics completed a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins with a 4-3 win at Marlins Park on Sunday.Milone (6-3), who has won his last six decisions, allowed three runs -- two earned -- on four hits and two walks.
Nate Freiman crushed a three-run home run and Josh Donaldson drove in a run for the A's, who have won four straight and nine of their last 11.
Andrew Heaney (0-3) was tagged for four runs on eight hits while fanning four to absorb the loss in this third career start.
"His command was really good." said Marlins manager Mike Redmond. "He just made one bad pitch and they took advantage of it."
Marcell Ozuna had a solo homer for the Miami, which has lost four straight and nine of its last 12 contests.
The Marlins scored a run in the first after Christian Yelich tripled off the wall in right-center field and crossed home after Alberto Callaspo's throw went by Donaldson at third.
The A's finally broke through for four runs in the sixth.
After two quick outs, Callaspo and Yoenis Cespedes both singled to put runners on the corners. Donaldson tied the game with a base hit to left. Freiman then smashed a first-pitch fastball over the left-field wall to put Oakland ahead 4-1.
"Certainly a big home run from the new kid," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "He's had a full year in the majors, he's not intimated by it. He gets called up and on his first day, has the biggest hit of the game."
Ozuna's pinch-hit, solo homer to lead off the sixth cut the lead to 4-2.
Miami pulled within a run the next inning with a sacrifice fly from Jeff Baker that scored Casey McGehee, who walked to start the seventh.
Fernando Abad and Ryan Cook combined for a scoreless eighth, and Cook stayed in and pitched the ninth to record his first save of the season.
